What is Bikejoring?
Bikejoring is a sport where your dog is harnessed to your bike via a bungee line and you ride with your dog pulling out front.
The correct equipment and training is required to take part in the activity safely. You will require a harness for your dog, a bungee line and a Bikejoring arm (which attaches to the frame of your bike and protrudes over the front wheel of the bike to stop the line from getting caught in the front wheel).
The main areas to pay attention to when starting bikejoring are the following:
-
A correctly fitting harness designed for pulling (not a harness designed for lead walking etc)
-
Teaching your dog basic commands for moving forward, turning left and right, slowing down and stopping
-
The fitness of your dog (and you!)
Bikejoring is a fun friendly sport, and with new clubs starting up all the time joining a group near you has never been easier. Whether you just want to have fun and adventures with your dog or you want to enter some races, Bikejoring is a great way to spend time with your dog, improve your relationship and keep them fit and healthy at the same time.
